Mentor Jr. and Covid-19: How we are adapting

Over the past year, Mentor Jr has helped dozens of pupils receive free homework and educational support from bright, committed sixth form students. Even though we can no longer go to schools due to social distancing guidelines, we want to make sure that our mentees have the support and continuity that they deserve. So, we have moved our free mentoring sessions online and are now able to expand them to a wider range of schools and students.

Here is how it will work:

Using the ‘Book a Mentor’ tab, or by emailing mentorjrtutoring@gmail.com, primary school pupils from Year 3 through to Year 6 can book a free 45 minute mentoring and homework support session, either weekly or just a one off, with one of our Mentors. Parents will need to consent by completing the consent form which can be found in the ‘Book a Mentor’ tab of this website. If you’re already part of the Mentor Jr. programme, you can book your usual Mentor each week, and if you’re new, likewise you can book for a regular weekly session. During mentoring sessions, pupils will be able to ask specific questions about homework or topics they find tricky in class, especially now that they are posed with the challenge of remote learning, or just have a chat.

After a session is booked, parents will be emailed a Zoom link which will be valid at the time of the arranged session. Mentoring sessions will therefore take place through this platform, and pupils will of course have the choice whether to use both the video and audio, or just the audio- whatever they feel most comfortable with!

As always, I am more than happy to answer any questions at all at mentorjrtutoring@gmail.com

Stay safe and well!
