THE MANAGEMENT TEAM

Since the website was launched in May 2020, we went from helping around 15 families with 10 tutors, to now, in 2021, being able to provide over 300 hours of free tutoring every week, with almost 150 tutors from all around the world. As such, I am looking to assemble a management team of young, bright and ambitious volunteers to help innovate and to grow Mentor Jr. 

Below are the descriptions of the various volunteering opportunities within the Mentor Jr. management team that you can apply for.

MANAGING DIRECTOR

DESCRIPTION 

We are searching for a young, talented and professional Managing Director to manage all communication between other roles, and to oversee the organisation. You will represent the organisation and work closely with the Communications, Media and Marketing Manager to develop and implement initiatives that increase Mentor Jr’s visibility. You will need to take the lead on dispersing tasks between the team members, ensuring that they are completed efficiently. You will be the point of contact for any prospective Mentor Jr. tutors or tutees and you will ultimately be responsible for growing the platform’s network, reach and accessibility.  Our Managing Director will need to be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and community-driven to take on this exciting role. This position requires someone equipped with a positive attitude and readiness to be a team player.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Manage the admin company email, forwarding queries to relevant staff members to ensure that every question is answered, and that every problem is solved.

  • Be aware of all tutors and be able to give recommendations to parents

  • Understand Mentor Jr. thoroughly, being able to respond to any questions from parents, potential partners and mentors. 

  • Oversee the Communications, Operations, Selection and Website Management teams

  • Chair weekly team meetings, and ensure team members are carrying out their roles effectively. 


REQUIREMENTS 

  • One academic year of commitment (September until August)

  • Year 12, Year 13 or Undergraduate student

  • Able to respond to emails daily (approx. 20 - 30 minutes daily commitment)

  • Help to train your successor who will take over the next academic year

COMMUNICATIONS, MEDIA AND MARKETING MANAGER

DESCRIPTION 

We are searching for a young, motivated and personable Communications, Media and Marketing Manager to innovate and implement strategies that will increase visibility and promote the organisation to communities around the world. You will work closely with the Mentor Jr. Ambassador team to ensure they are representing the brand correctly and creatively, as well as with the Managing Director to ensure that marketing plans can be implemented. To take on this role, you will need to be enthusiastic, creative and have an understanding of social media and basic advertising.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Manage the media company email, and send out newsletters to our subscribers at relevant times throughout the year

  • Manage the Mentor Jr. Instagram and Twitter accounts

  • Manage the Ambassador team who help balance supply and demand by getting the word out to relevant sources of potential tutors and tutees


REQUIREMENTS 

  • One academic year of commitment (September until August)

  • Year 12, Year 13 or Undergraduate student

  • Able to respond to emails daily and to keep the organisation’s social media pages up to date (approx. 1 - 1.5 hrs weekly commitment)

  • Help to train your successor who will take over the next academic year

OPERATIONS MANAGER

DESCRIPTION 

We are searching for a young, organised and proactive Operations Manager who is able to ensure the smooth running of bookings, and to make sure that mentors are able to make their sessions. You will need to be accessible via email and text so that parents can ask you questions specifically about their bookings, and it will be your responsibility to update each mentor’s available timings on the website at the start of each new school term. You will be the point of contact for any tutors who wish to change their availability, and it will be your responsibility to make note of tutors who prove to be less reliable than others so that our organisation maintains a high level of professionalism that our customers can rely on.  To take on this role, you will need to be kind, organised and diligent.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Resolve scheduling issues between tutors and tutees

  • Manage the Wix booking calendar, sorting cancellations and ensuring that tutors are happy with their availabilities


REQUIREMENTS 

  • One academic year of commitment (September until August)

  • Year 11, 12, 13 or Undergraduate student

  • Able to respond to emails and texts daily and to keep the Wix booking calendar up to date (approx. 1hr weekly commitment)

  • Help to train your successor who will take over the next academic year

MENTOR SELECTION TEAM

DESCRIPTION 

We are searching for a group of reliable, passionate and personable young people to make up our Mentor Selection Team. They will have the responsibility of interviewing, selecting and settling in new mentors. You will most likely be the point of contact for new tutors who have specific questions and you will be working very closely with the Managing Director and the Website Manager. You will be representing the organisation to prospective mentors, and as such will need to be enthusiastic, professional and accessible too.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Ensure that tutor application forms are sufficient and appropriate before interviews

  • Interview all applicants via Zoom before onboarding them

  • Manage the Wix staff member page, ensuring all new tutors have the correct information and availability on their profiles.

REQUIREMENTS 

  • One academic year of commitment (September until August)

  • Year 12 or Year 13 student

  • Able to respond to emails and texts daily and to make sure that any new applicants are reached out to (approx. 1hr weekly commitment)

  • Interview new applicants (each interview should last 15 minutes, and the number of applicants varies from week to week.)

  • Help to train your successor who will take over the next academic year

WEBSITE MANAGER

DESCRIPTION

We are searching for a reliable, tech-savvy and creative individual to take on the role of Website Manager. You will be the point of contact for any website-related queries, and will oversee all activities of the Communications, Operations, and Selection teams whenever they update the website. If you are hoping to study or pursue any tech-related career, the position will be something you can include in interviews, CVs and personal statements for years to come. 


RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Ensure that the website is up to date

  • Fix any issues with the functionality of the website 

  • Generate strategies to increase accessibility to families who use the site


REQUIREMENTS 

  • One academic year of commitment (September until August)

  • Year 11, 12 or 13 student

  • Able to respond to emails and texts daily and to make sure that the website and company is running as smoothly as possible (approx. 1hr weekly commitment)

  • Help to train your successor who will take over the next academic year
